Did anyone else watch this over the weekend? Anyone care? I used to really be into the whole thing from nominations to inductions but as the years go by it seems to be more and more of a joke.

I enjoyed the performances and listening to some of the speeches but the overall feeling of it left me a little meh.

Pluses - Gabriel, The E Street Band and Nirvana. Disappointed that Kiss didn't perform. The Linda Ronstadt tribute was good but long. Cat Stevens and Hall and Oates were decent enough.

No. No. It's always been a joke.

I'm bitter & cynical right now though.

Bruce and the E-Street doing Kitty's back was excellent. I could have done with out Lorde singing a nirvana song, and Courtney Love fit in quite awkwardly, but other than that the Nirvana stuff was great.

The Rock Hall as an institution is a joke. But as a fan of music, it is a great opportunity to see all these acts in one place at one time.

As far as who gets nominated and who gets in, that's a whole other story. Looking at next year's eligibles, I have no clue who will be nominated.

Jane's addiction, N.W.A., and Pixies were all eligible as of 2012. The Smith's and Sonic Youth as of 2007.

If there are no obvious wild successes, It might be time that some of these critical darlings start to get mentioned.

Sadly Nickelback is probably more likely to make it in than Jane's or the Pixies.

Kiss got in somehow. That's inexcusable.

I guess they are basically the house band now, along with the Eagles.

All groups I like to see get in but I doubt it. Maybe one of them gets a nod next year? Green Day and NIN are eligible next year. Those would be my two favorites from the newly eligible.

While not looking to bash something I have never taken the time to watch, what I will say is one of the best things Rock N Roll had going was this outsider image. Okay, at the very start it was all about the hit singles and very popular fad among the youth. Once it really got going and it's very best is was an "us against the world" thing. A lot of those bands which users have knocked into the top 100 artists on this website started with a "this is our gang" mentality. They would come onto the stage and sing all about who they were and where they had come from. Even those 60s/70s rock bands whomay be considered dinosaurs by a few of the younger users were this awesome gang of youths at one point.

A Rock N Roll hall of fame is good and grand for the profits and image of the whole outfit. However, by it's very nature, the true Rock N Roll hall of fame is the line of pictures in that musty wooden rock bar downtown, in the record stores line of vinyls or the posters on the bedroom wall of the wannabe next big thing.
