- Post subject: BEA interview 14: Suedeswede
|
I had the incredibly dubious pleasure of interviewing esteemed LAD Suedeswede over Skype today. The mess below is the fruit of this encounter.
[19:00:59] Luke Phifer: ive prepared literally nothing but fuck it life's what you make it
[19:01:04 | Edited 19:01:04] Tom Busuttil: innit
[19:01:37] Luke Phifer: question 1: approximately how funny is it to call one direction gay
[19:02:01] Tom Busuttil: Beyond Aristocrats joke funny, breaks the scale of 1-10.
[19:02:08] Luke Phifer: correct answer
[19:02:38] Luke Phifer: 2: whats the album thats stayed on your top 100 the longest?
[19:03:23] Tom Busuttil: I think The Stone Roses and The Velvet Underground & Nico were both in my original top 20 that was actually 'my favourite albums' so I guess them.
[19:04:32] Luke Phifer: 3: how come pop is objectively shit yet when you add guitars its legendary
[19:05:15 | Edited 19:05:36] Tom Busuttil: Because real bands play instruments, I mean if you don't play an instrument (and by instruments I mean two guitars, bass, and drums) then you're not a real band, end of.
[19:06:04] Luke Phifer: ahh, this ties in with my 4th question, in a way
[19:06:26] Luke Phifer: 4: How come Rap has so few decent artists, and how come the best one is white?
[19:07:36] Tom Busuttil: Well, as I said the instruments thing, plus racism. And let's face it, not many black people are LADs. Mike Skinner, though, likes to go to the pub. You don't hear Notorious BIG talking about how he goes down to the pub and downs a Carling, do you?
[19:08:16] Luke Phifer: You really don't.
[19:09:04] Luke Phifer: 5: How have your perceptions of those previously mentioned albums (TSR and TVU&N) and your taste in general changed since you really began to "get" into music?
[19:11:16] Tom Busuttil: I'd say that my perceptions of these haven't changed for the better or for the worse, but what delving into more music has made me realise is how stand-out special these albums are to me - both for "getting" me into more music, and because having listened to more music, you realise the quality of these albums in comparison to other albums you've heard. They feel personal to me, like they're MY albums, hence why they're still so high up. (I diverted xD)
[19:12:15] Luke Phifer: [19:11] Tom Busuttil:
<<< I diverteTHATS IT INTERVIEW OVER
[19:12:32] Tom Busuttil: whooooooooooooo
[19:12:43] Luke Phifer: loljkitsnevergonnaend
[19:12:53] Tom Busuttil: [19:12] Tom Busuttil:
<<< whooooooooooooo
[19:13:42] Luke Phifer: 6: What influence on your tastes would you say being on BEA has had?
[19:18:04] Tom Busuttil: Oh god, BEA has basically furthered my knowledge in every genre I listened to before, and introduced me to so many new genres. For example, before BEA if someone asked me "who's your favourite hip-hop artist?" I'd say Eminem, because he's like the only one I'd listened to more than once back then. So BEA has massively broadened my horizons in many ways. As well as this, I'd argue that some BEA users change perspectives of music for us all. I mean Necharsian managed to convince at least 50% of BEA that Carly Rae isn't just shitty teen pop, and gave a fresh perspective which none of us had ever even thought of before, and now I like Carly Rae. Plus, many BEA users are always encouraging me to check out new stuff, which obviously gives me huge reason to do so. So, yeah, wrapped up into a conclusion I'd say that BEA has influenced my tastes by actually adding diversity and depth to what I listen to.
[19:18:43] Luke Phifer: think ull find i did my fair share in that carly rae promotion
[19:18:46] Luke Phifer: lol ull
[19:19:03] Tom Busuttil: aULLsupreme or whatever it's callled
[19:19:14] Luke Phifer: aULeLsupreme
[19:19:59] Luke Phifer: 7: This is a fairly "big" thing to be asking, but how would you say BEA, and it's community, have effected you as a person?
[19:20:11] Tom Busuttil: *affected
[19:20:15] Tom Busuttil: That is my answer son
[19:20:19] Tom Busuttil: nah but srsly
[19:21:39] Tom Busuttil: Yes, in many ways, and I'm not sure how I could answer how BEA has affected my personality whilst doing it justice, but I'd say I'm less volatile because of BEA, for sure.
[19:22:35] Luke Phifer: best ever mellowing
[19:23:43] Luke Phifer: 8: If the world was ending and you could pick 5 BEA users to rescue and take to live in some edenic paradise for the rest of your natural lives, who would you choose?
[19:24:02] Tom Busuttil: dude.
[19:24:16] Luke Phifer: lol jk
[19:24:34] Tom Busuttil: I would do it, but I honestly think some people would be major offended
[19:24:46] Luke Phifer: God what losers
[19:25:12] Tom Busuttil: innit just suck it up and listen to some Libertines like a real LAD.
[19:25:20] Luke Phifer: yeah fam
[19:26:51] Luke Phifer: i think im out of questions so ill end it on this
[19:27:05] Luke Phifer: 8: you livin that #dirtlife
[19:27:21] Tom Busuttil: ofc alongside my main #dirtman alel amirite
[19:27:27] Luke Phifer: yeh fam
[19:27:33] Luke Phifer: alright i think thats the best we're gonna get
[19:27:35] Tom Busuttil: Are we actually posting this xD
[19:27:43] Luke Phifer: hahaha yassss
[19:27:44] Tom Busuttil: I'm not objecting btw
[19:27:49] Tom Busuttil: hahaha allreet
[19:27:56] Luke Phifer: just post the entire skype chat
[19:28:02] Tom Busuttil: could do.

Didn't really take away much from the interview (which imo was the point of them) so I left pretty unsatisfied that you decided this was going to be it. But that's just my feelings on it.
