IDK if anyone favorite it (I didn't), but there's a little thing where BEA picked teams to support (some of us at random). As a result, and actually mostly cuz I wanna see an African team win it, I'm pulling for Cote D'Ivoire. Also cuz the US is probably going to get annihilated.

Either FIFA's behavior has become increasingly unacceptable or I'm just now starting to become interested enough with things that really matter to notice. Brazil isn't even done building its stadiums. Brazil still faces abject conditions for many of its citizens and instead focuses on investing in this event that will only benefit those who are already wealthy.

Working conditions for the laborers building stadiums in Qatar for the later World Cup are appalling. Workers are dying from the heat and are getting their visas confiscated and they have to leave deposits if they want to take a vacation. If it sounds at all like slavery, it's because it is. And FIFA has pretty much taken a "not our problem" stance.

FIFA should be boycotted.

Dude, FIFA are a bunch of shitbags, particularly that insufferable hot air balloon Blatter, but there's no fucking way I'm boycotting the World Cup. I wait four years so I can sit around watching international football and drinking all day, and it's gonna take a bit more than workers' rights to convince me to do anything else. Calm down Trotsky, and enjoy the footie.

The heat will be a factor in this World Cup for sure and the European teams never win when a World Cup is played in South America. So either the hosts or Argentina will win. A good outside bet would be Uruguay if Suarez is still firing. Messi has clearly been holding himself back in La Liga waiting for this. If he steps up to the plate and stars, then Argentina will be hard to stop!

I'm still left-wing as fuck, I just prefer my football guilt-free. Burying my head in the sand is preferable to all the moral conundrums that following a major sport inevitably throws up.

Wow, you're lucky you're not a bigger fan of popular American sports I guess. There's not nearly enough sand to bury your head in between NBA (crooked league, racist owners), NFL (criminals, money grubbing commish, hgh out the wazoo, concussions the league pretends to care about but does everything to try to ignore), and MLB (roids, contacts out of control.)

The world cup comes in the Summer holidays as well so you wouldn't have to go to work. Surprised
