This post is going to sink like a rock, but that's okay. I wanted to say without Casey Kasem I'm not sure where I would've learned about music when I was a kid.
After I learned about music growing up in the late 60's and early 70's from my parents, (Danny and the Juniors, The Four Seasons, The Monkees, Elvis, The Carpenters, Neil Diamond, etc.) my next source of musical knowledge came from American Top 40 and Casey Kasem.
Before the internet, downloads, streaming, et al. there were two ways to learn about music: word of mouth from friends and the radio. That's it! I used to listen to AT40 every weekend religiously in the mid to late 70's. I would record it all on a reel to reel machine and play back the songs I liked. Then I would go to a record store and buy albums by the groups I really liked on AT40. So Casey Kasem actually fueled my love of music in my early formative years.
Not sure how many of you can relate to this experience. You have the world of music at your fingertips now. But thank you Casey Kasem. Rest in Peace!

Sadly, I never really had the time to listen to the top 40 show as a kid, and by the time I was an adult it was pretty well obsolete to me.
My knowledge of Casey pretty much stems from three things: Shaggy, the Zack Attack episode of Saved by the Bell, and that unfortunate time he had to do a dog death dedication right out of an uptempo song.

Rick Dees has always been the guy who could never be Casey Kasem. Still is. Always will be. Dees put the cheese in morning radio. Kasem gave us the hits. _________________ May we all get to heaven
