Ive got the softest spot for Depeche Mode and this is probably their best. Wonderful stuff.

I enjoy Depeche Mode to an extent, but can't escape the feeling that their music is style over substance. A good record, for sure, but not near the top of my list of dark '80s post-punk records.

Depeche Mode were great at times, but to my mind mostly a singles band. Never recorded a completely great album, Black Celebration and Ultra probably missing it only by close shave.

This is a good one, but nothing further on is nearly as good as Never Let Me Down Again.

Anyway, track picks:

Never Let Me Down Again
Little 15
Behind the Wheel
Strangelove

I love it! My 2nd favourite DM album. 95/100
Best tracks: Never Let Me Down Again, Behind the Wheel, Strangelove, Little 15, The Things You Said.

I like nearly all their albums.

Decent enough album, Never Let Me Down is without doubt the highlight. I much prefer Violator though!

Pimpf was an awful track to end it on, but otherwise a great DM album. Still rank it 4th through 6th though. Violator, Songs of Faith and Devotion, Black Celebration are better, and arguably Ultra and Some Great Reward could be too. I'd even throw Sounds of the Universe in there for shits and giggles.

A few great songs, but the rest is average imo. There are many albums by them I think I prefer.

The good old days from Depeche Mode, what a wonderful record. I wish I could say the same about their last two records. They should stop at some point, their new music is not helping their legacy

It's been all downhill since they lost Alan Wilder. Now to make things worse Dave Gahan has insisted upon writing songs too...some have been ok, but most seem quite clumsy. Gore also hasn't written many winners of late. Precious was an exception.

On the whole Sounds of the Universe wasn't a bad album, but it still can't compete with their best. I've found it very hard to get into Delta Machine.
