Since I only really started getting into music over the past two years, I haven't listened to all that much. The second half of my Top 100 albums list is sort of filler. Based on my chart, you can probably tell what I have already checked out as well as the type of music I'm into.

Main Genres: Hip Hop, Shoegaze, Psych Rock, Indie Rock, Chillwave, Ambient, Synthpop, Funk, and Soul.

I don't wanna just take the Overall Chart on here and find stuff, so throw me some stuff that you think might be "essential" in your eyes.

Thanks in advance. <3

Many thanks, someone else told me to check out Pavement. Now I've got more reason to do so!

Is it solipsistic in here or is it just me?

I would highly highly recommend using this chart for reference. It's a pretty accurate reflection of the overall preferences of the members here. It's a pretty safe bet that virtually every album on there is considered "essential" by a regular on this site.

After you've finished with that chart, then start to delve into the genres you love most. That chart will give you a lot to work with, as will the BEA overall. Then, as you find that you really like certain genres, delve more into them. Google the genre, ask for recommendations in the recommendations thread, and go deeper and deeper into the genre. Then rinse and repeat for the next genre.

If you want more shoegaze I've got the perfect thing for you.

When You Sleep (You Dream Pop) by SilverWalrus

Immediate recommendations would be LSD And The Search For God, Swirlies, Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, and Drop Nineteens.

Also as a non-shoegaze rec since I've been listening to them a ton lately how about some Spoon.

Kill The Moonlight by Spoon

Also check out Kaputt by Destroyer and Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? by The Unicorns. And Maybe some Stereolab too.

You're new here, eyezayzay, so I'll translate this seemingly innocent, offhand casual comment from Silver for you....

Stereolab are one of the GREATEST FUCKING BANDS EVER! Check out my chart dedicated to all things Stereolab to get started!!! They fucking rule!!!

SilverWalrus' Sensational Stereolab Solution

Although to be honest, Silver's probably way too mellow to use the word "fucking", and I'm probably just projecting my own passion for Stereolab here.

Nah, nah, that's a pretty much 100% accurate translation of that statement.
