I hate that Nuno has drawn this matchup because Eddie Hazel is incredible. His solo in "Maggot Brain" is one of my absolute favorite guitar solos I've ever heard.
However, I love Nuno. I think he is a prime example of the really skilled guitarists that get overlooked because of the fact that they were in hair metal bands. Ignore Extreme, ignore "More Than Words", if that's all you've heard of them, ignore Gary Cherone (everyone else does), and listen to Nuno. His classical chops are evident in the way he plays the guitar. Yea, shredding can get boring, but Nuno doesn't just shred, he doesn't just play fast, he picks and chooses what goes where when.
Just listen to this song, where he incorporates bits of Mozart's Turkish March:
As has already been said, the Maggot Brain solo is absolutely amazing and in my case pretty much tips the scales, not to mention Hazel is just an amazing guitarist in general.
If Gowie hadn't nominated him, I certainly would have chosen Hazel. He's long been one of my favorite guitarists. He was a funky extraterrestrial with an immeasurable amount of passion oozing from his guitar. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
