Some summary thoughts...
I was always kinda meh on this album and this listen was no different. It has some obvious strengths, like Gilmour's guitar playing and Floyd's usual flair for arrangement and dynamics. However, the lyrics still bug me. Stilted metaphors like "the machine" and "riding the gravy train" make spooky feel more like corny. I don't have a problem with artists being overtly political, but it feels to me like Floyd has nothing interesting to say. The Wall will be the culmination of this problem. Their music tends to work better for me when it's personal, and I enjoyed the title track, as well as parts of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond."
Overall: 65/100

Just wait until you get to the extreme metal picks in the RYM top 1000, heh. _________________

Yeah, I can agree with that, at least in regards to Wish You Were Here. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
