What do you think of the new U2 album, "Songs of Innocence", dropping for free with no warning today on iTunes? Pretty cool to get a free album from a classic band.
It sounding good is a bonus too!

It's kind of like "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" lite from what little I've heard so far. Which is both sad to say and better than I expected.

Yeah, no thanks. I haven't liked that record for I don't know how long anymore.

Yeah true. But "No Line On The Horizon" was so abysmal I was expecting it to be a further step down.

Stopped listening after Atomic Bomb, so I have no clue there.

Oh yes, very cool of them.
This is the most ridiculous publicity stunt Like, yeah, cool that you gave out a free album. Probably because no one would buy it. But having it shoved into our iTunes libraries seems so demanding.. I think this would probably also make it the most 'owned' album ever? Just an assumption though.
It hasn't gone in my trash bin yet, but I'll give a song or two off of it a chance. Then it'll go in the trash after that.

Everybody leaks their albums now. It's old and played out. Just release the damn thing and quit with the publicity stunts.

I consider myself someone who actually could say they kinda liked their last album....
This album.................................................
wow, really... all the interviews saying that they were holding off because they wanted to release something worthwhile??????????????????????????????????????????
I'll just leave it at that. I think I may actually be joining the haters of U2........ never thought I'd say that because they used to be musically a big deal for me.......... I grew up on Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum, and the 90s singles... but then when I was about 14 in 1998, I bought a bunch of their albums... and then by the time I was 17 I had seen them twice and owned all their albums, and all their 80s albums on vinyl.
Yes I agreed that after Pop they had some kind of stripping down and maybe started to loose it, but I still bough all their albums before this... I went to the 360 tour and it was entertaining and almost as good as they were in 2001 when I saw them first, which I could probably say I haven't seen a better show (then again it was my first rock show and had some of that novelty to it).
But now there is this album, and I have to say this is like the Rolling Stones in the 80s/90s...
UTTER CRAP.
Very disappointed, former U2 fan... and not the kind that just liked their 80s stuff a little and then hated on them. Everything U2 did until Pop was brilliant. All that you can't leave behind, How to dismantle an Atomic Bomb, and No Line on the Horizon all had their moments, and almost were mostly good, but not brilliant.
But no, I won't say you haters were right all along, rather that U2 went the way of the Rolling Stones... They should have quit when R.E.M. did.
Edit: Cedarwood Road was actually pretty good... still first listen, but the rest is still UTTER CRAP.
