One of my favorite rock albums of all time. The synergy of the band is incredible and the intstrumentation and songwriting help keep this album interesting throughout it's 74 minute runtime. No bad songs here, almost all are indie rock classics.

It's alright, but I find it a bit underwhelming in places. _________________

The first time I heard even the first hint of Teeth Like God's Shoeshine, I knew I was gonna have a new favorite band. Turns out this album is one of a kind for Modest Mouse, hugely influential.

Teeth Like God's Shoeshine is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard.
I always had trouble sitting though this entire album in one sitting, but it has so many memorable moments that it's worth the attempt every time.

The album is brilliant. LCW infuses Isaac's brilliant tales of anti - religion sentiment, drug use, desolation, and industrialization of the mid - west with the commonly jagged progressions of brilliant tunes (eg "doing the cockroach", "teeth like god's shoeshine", etc.). Throughout the album you get the feeling of passion towards whatever it is Isaac is singing in regards to because he's natural at it. He has a brilliant voice filled with emotion and his shouting adds all the more to it. I find "Bankrupt on selling" to embody the best of the band here (anything from lyrical content to instrumentation), but the album as a whole tends to be perfect. I also enjoy Green's drumming quite a bit; he has a great style, especially on "Trucker's Atlas".

Never really got into this one. The length of the CD tended to put me off going back for future listens, so I always tended to prefer their later stuff instead, which is generally more accessible. Will have to give it another go.

Perhaps the only full album I enjoy from Modest Mouse, the whole thing is generally great through and through. They never extended above these heights except on certain songs on The Moon and Antarctica and maybe some singles, but this album is damn consistent. "Cowboy Dan," "Trailer Trash," and "Out of Gas" compose one of the best three-song stretches on an album in the '90s.
I'm seeing them in a couple weeks, and hope they mostly play material from this album, their next (Moon and Antarctica), and their singles.

Building Nothing Out of Something and This is a Long Drive... are really good as well imo.I can't see why you won't enjoy those if you like LCW
