I'm focusing on Kansas this week. I've only now started "Masque," so I'll give a quick rundown of the first two albums.

KANSAS (1974)
It's great. As a kid, Kansas was my first rock band. So when I first turned this on after months of no Kansas, I felt like I was listening to the beginning of rock. Sure, these guys are from the 70's, but back then it was all so new to me. Kansas set me on my musical experience through the years. The whole album was diverse, had good lyrics, and two great vocalists.

SONG FOR AMERICA (1975)
This one's highly energetic. Almost all of the epics in the album are amazing. Even if some of the songs lacked coherency, the lyrics and vocals and instruments (not to mention, occasionally beautiful production) clearly more than made up for the flaws. Plus, Lonely Street is very underrated. Maybe because it's not usually something Kansas would do? It was a bluesy track, and Kansas are not known for their blues. They should be. Anyway, like I said, the album was packed with energy and I hope other Kansas albums followed that same kind of energy. But at the same time, I don't think they should. The energy may be what sets this album apart from the others.

Anyway, I'm not very impressed with Masque at the moment. Even though the lyrics are still good, it just seems like Kansas isn't trying very hard.

Well, it's hard to believe that voice comes with testicles.

In seriousness, Sigur Ros has some of the most beautiful production I've heard (on Agaetis Byrjun). Can't say I'm that fond of Rimur, but () was pretty good. Anyway, Agaetis Byrjun is at the top of my post-rock chart, and I might try another one later. But I might be post-rocked out for the day. I just feel like having a good cup of coffee right now.

They're even better live. I place Takk right up there with Agaetis Byrjun, and pretty much every Sigur Ros album offers a little something different than the others.

Don't like Sigur Rós. Can't listen to the sound although they are perfectly nice.
