In the feud between Sgt. Pepper's and Pet Sounds, I pick the latter every damn time. This is a truly great album, but anything I have to say regarding that greatness has been said, and rehashed to death. It's terrific, and that's all there is to it.

Track picks
2. You Still Believe In Me
4. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)
8. God Only Knows
13. Caroline, No

Exactly this. It's sheerly a great album and that's all that needs to be said.

It's masterful. I really don't feel anything needs to be said about this album. Everything has already been said.

inb4 SuedeSwede makes a huge sentimental speech about this being his new favourite album which isn't that unique to begin with.

But in all seriousness, this album deserves all the praise it gets. It's really wonderful.

If I had been a songwriter back in '66 and I had heard this, I'd have given up on trying to make music.

Definitely Pepper for me, but it's really an apples and oranges comparison anyway.

Pet Sounds doesn't sound like any rock album that came before it, and like very few that came after. The Beach Boys' preceding work, Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" albums, and Rubber Soul all provide a meaningful backdrop, but this is a massive step forward for the album as an art form.

Brian Wilson was creating a very personal statement... perhaps even a cry for help. When I hear it, I hear a man who was forced to grow up too soon, and as a result never really did. When he pines for lost love, it is with the mind of an adult, but the innocence of a child. I feel like I can also understand why it was too much for him. So sad.

I won't pretend to relate to his pain, though. I just don't see myself in Brian Wilson, which is probably why I don't return to it very often. It's pretty, though.

I don't know why, but I never liked it so much. I prefer some other Beach Boys' albums over it.

It's a masterpiece for sure and way better than Sgt. Pepper. The best album of the sixties!
