Blazing Arrow

It's a little too long, but I really didn't like Duppy Writer.

Roots Manuva is one of my favourite rappers, and I'd vote for Run Come Save Me or Awfully Deep or Brand New Second Hand ahead of most albums in this tournament, but I don't feel as comfortable throwing a vote to a remix album that barely even registers as hip-hop. I like Duppy Writer a lot, but it's not even as good as Dub Come Save Me or Alternately Deep in the pantheon of Roots' remix albums. Still, any Roots Manuva is good, and as a means of introducing hip-hop to reggae fans I couldn't think of a better suggestion. Blackalicious - well, they're Blackalicious. A little too soft a little too often for my liking, and I can't help but feel that this is hip-hop aimed squarely at a certain type of person (*cough* bawp *cough*), but whatever. Occasionally it all comes together completely, as on the glorious 'Make You Feel That Way', but the shit just isn't my cup of tea. I don't dislike them, but they just don't speak to me the way that they speak to others. If someone says they like Blackalicious, I don't immediately think they have bad taste in music or anything like that (I remember Keith saying something about Public Enemy, I think, and how he respected the opinion of people who like them but how he doesn't necessarily like them himself, and that's basically where I stand with Blackalicious, if a little less enthusiastic). But yeah, gonna give my vote to Blazing Arrow here on the basis that it's most definitely a hip-hop album, whereas Duppy Writer isn't, though I'd rather listen to Duppy Writer most of the time.

I think Timothy Parker is an impeccable rapper, and his work with Xcel via Blackalicious was one of my favorite hip-hop about ten years ago. I still appreciate their first three records (also hey there’s a new one coming out next year, talk about a ten year hiatus!) loads. I think Nia, their previous record, is a lot better but I’m still voting for one of my favorites when I was developing my hip-hop taste.

Run Come Save Me and Awfully Deep are absolutely fantastic. I'd also highly recommend his debut Brand New Second Hand

Also this track is dope

No it isn't.

However, this

Leftism by Leftfield

is much better.
