Has anyone else noticed the lyrics of Losing My Religion, they literally make no sense. They go well together but Michael Stipe is just throwing random sentences in there.. Well that's just my opinion.
"Oh life, it's bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I've said enough
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try _________________ "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming"

Fun fact, the working title for this album was 'Cat Butt' until they ran 'out of time' to choose a name, and went with that.

I've had a weird relationship with this album. It was the first R.E.M. album I heard however many years ago and I was kinda lukewarm on it. When I eventually discovered Automatic for the People, I decided Automatic was by far the better of the two.
Nowadays, I find Automatic unlistenable and actually enjoy this the most of their post-IRS period. The first three tracks in particular are bang on.

It's a good album.. A few stellar tracks, though heavily outweighed by the weaker ones. REM though is a consistently great band and has 10x more top-notch, life-changing albums than the average decent artist.

Why?
I love Automatic more than this. That's a consistent album and there is not a single bad song on the album. I also like the hit songs on that more than the songs on Out of Time.

I wish I knew. I've had some of my old favorites just fall flat over the years. The Bends is another one.

They have better, but this is a solid entry in their catelogue. _________________ Finnegan was super bad-ass.
