Talk about albums you thought you wouldn't be into, yet you fell for it on the first listen.

Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Both times I've played it were wonderful, and the second time was much better.

Honestly, I fell head over heels for Drake's Take Care on first listen, even though I'm genetically predisposed to hate Drake.

I guess I'll give a shoutout to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and On Avery Island. I can't call myself a fan, but NMH as a whole has impressed me far more than I thought possible.

I always had the impression that The Smiths were a soft band that complained too much about their emotions (back in the day I was into hard and loud rock like Zeppelin & grunge). Then one day I decided to give The Smiths' Meat is Murder a try, and by the time "Barbarism Begins at Home" finished playing I had become a fan. The guitars on that album are full of edge and the bass always drives the grooves home. I kept coming back to that one and eventually I came to love Morrissey and his writing as well (a few breakups and rejections helped with that).

Quite a few I thought I wouldn't be into:

If I Should Fall From Grace With God by The Pogues

I thought it'd be generic Irish music, but turned into one of my favourite albums overnight.

And this surprisingly:

If You're Feeling Sinister by Belle & Sebastian

Thought it'd be a nice album but I'd think nothing of it later, but it's the album that changed me forever.

I really struggle to enjoy a lot of trap or even southern hip hop, but sometimes I'll hear a song that makes me wonder why I listen to anything else.

Metal as well, I often avoid it, but some albums really do it for me, like Saor's release last year.

This sounded like a cool idea–i.e. black metal plus bluegrass. And wow. It's like nothing I've ever heard. It ended up as my third favorite of 2014. Definitely one of the most underrated album of the decade.
