I think the first half is phenomenal. It's more funk than pop (except for "Little Red Corvette") but it's still very distinctive and creative. The second half is weaker, with "Free" being a low point for me.

Seeing him do 'Something in the Water' live is one of my all-time time favourite musical moments. The whole album is one of his very best, actually pretty challenging compared to Purple Rain or Sign o the Times or Dirty Mind. Amazing stuff. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Pretty definitely my favourite of his, maybe it should be in my top 100 also, I find 'Delirious' through to 'Automatic' pretty damn flawless soul pop. Actually, the whole thing is pretty flawless, like 'Little Red Corvette' is probably my least favourite track on there and it's still pretty great. Gonna shove this on my iPod for my walk to uni tomorrow morning, it'll help me bounce all the way. _________________

I never gave Prince the time of day till a couple of years ago, but I'm glad I did because he is amazing. This is my favourite, after Purple Rain, that I've listened to so far.

Although 1982 is one of my favorite years for music, this, in my opinion, is Prince's most overrated album and nowhere near the consistent quality of Purple Rain, Parade, or Sign 'O' the Times. I agree with the sentiment here that the first half is much better than the second; the title track is one of the artist's best ever. However, unlike the three aforementioned albums, which keep integrating new twists with every single track, 1999 starts to drag pretty quickly and eventually devolves into little more than a electro-pop backtrack, fit for a party but sort of boring for pure listening purposes. Actually, on an overall level, I'd listen to Around the World in a Day and Controversy before this.
