The only musicals I actually like are Les Miserables and Oklahoma, but I'm not that knowledgeable about it.

Singin' in the Rain is a 1952 comedy musical film. As such the CD probably should be listed under soundtracks with the other film music rather than here under musicals which are CD cast recordings.

Musicals are produced on stage usually in front of live audiences. They don't have soundtracks. Musical CDs are either live or studio cast recordings of the music from these stage productions.

According to Wikipedia:

"The term soundtrack refers to three related concepts: recorded music accompanying and synchronized to the images of a motion picture, television program or video game; a commercially released soundtrack album of music as featured in the soundtrack of a film or TV show; and the physical area of a film that contains the synchronized recorded sound."

It may be picky but correct.

Yeah, I've been lucky enough to see a fair few musicals. For the most part it's not really my thing, but I have to say I love Les Miserables - was lucky enough to see it on Broadway.

Amazing songs, really quality stuff, especially live.

EDITED: Okay, somebody DID mention The Music Man Smile

I like that one, West Side Story and My Fair Lady. Otherwise I'm not much for the genre.

GARY it seems we find another topic upon which we completely agree. Burton's Sweeney Todd is my favourite musical (and of the 6 others that I've seen from your list I thoroughly enjoy them too) and one of my top 20 films, with My Friends being one of my favourite songs ever.
