So Tidal-talk has been dominating a lot of the music-related conversations I've been having. What are people's thoughts?
My personal opinion is that the service is going to crash and burn because no one wants to pay $20 a month (Netflix is $7, Spotify is free) for a quality of sound they'll only be able to tell the difference between supposing they have the right quality of expensive-ass equipment, but that a growing out-of-touch millionaire is too myopic to figure that out and the idea would have been squashed on the table had it not been his brainchild.

I think it could definitely work out, but there really hasn't been enough details revealed to really tell what this will end up being like. People using Spotify are unlikely to jump ship unless it's significant upgrade in quality, and there's clearly a benefit to the artists.
I have a Premium Spotify account and don't mind paying at all. And I honestly wouldn't mind paying an extra $20/month for Netflix if they continued to add better movies and shows to the database (rather than a lot of the same shitty movies that I will never watch)
With streaming, it's all about access. So Tidal will need to be extremely functional. Will need well developed apps. And it will need to not burden my computer the way Spotify often does when it's open. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that we'll have to wait and see what Tidal has to offer vs. Spotify, if anything.

I measure purchases in weights of "12 pack of PBR" and a month of Tidal is a whole 1.6 12 packs of PBR. _________________ ~❅ ❄ ❆ hµM△₪ FESTIVE †®å§h ❆ ❄ ❅~

Mmm, didn't even consider this, but that's a very good point. In the end, the software makes the shit. _________________ ~❅ ❄ ❆ hµM△₪ FESTIVE †®å§h ❆ ❄ ❅~

I'm actually strongly considering dropping down the extra $10, or at least moving what I currently pay Spotify over to Tidal's standard account.
For me, audio quality is great, but I just hope "abstract qualities" labels (you know, the ones Poe brags about that are so elite that you can't find them on TPB) that aren't aligned with Spotify can finally be within my reach on Tidal. It's great to have Taylor Swift for free, but what will really make it special is a way for me listen to classics I can't listen to anywhere else.

Where the fuck do you live in the states where all of that is only $20
And I have a feeling it will burn out within a year unfortunately. The price is too steep considering Spotify (and hell, Youtube) exist for free.
Maaaaaaybe it would work out if it was half the price (which in retrospect, is a huge difference), but who knows.
Either way, I won't be subscribing to it... I rarely stream music as it is.

I subscribed to Tidal for three months before cancelling. The content is redundant when I have Spotify for free. I typically purchase albums I love and listen to them not through streaming, so Tidal wasn't worth the 20 to me.
An item I found a little funny. They advertised that the pay the artists twice as much money per listen as Spotify does, but since they're charging twice as much, I don't get how that's saying anything. _________________ follow me on the bandcamp.
