That 2012 team is hot stuff. Though I still have to listen to that Arrested Development before I can vote. But there's a 99% chance I'm voting for 2012, it's flawless.
As much as I like a bit of the 2012 picks, the 1992 pick has Harvest Moon and Automatic For The People (all-time favorites) alongside Amos' best record and Arrested Development. That alone really has me sold.
2012 team is really weak. Grimes, tame impala, and fiona are not artists I'm particularly in love with (thouggh "Oblivion" is a wonderful single) while REM, Arrested Development, and beastie boys are prey favorable.
Huh. I saw 92's team and pretty much said "good", but while it has the terrific Check Your Head and Automatic for The People there's little else to really get excited about. Singles team solid but again nothing breathtaking. 2012 on the other hand had a very strong album lineup (although I don't care at all for Tramp) but the singles team was much weaker this time around... until I saw "Hood" at the very end. That won me over in a heartbeat. 2012 NQA, despite it's flaws.
Also, Defago I highly suggest keeping the years instead of the users in the poll, to avoid some needless confusion and perhaps, some, um, people voting in these matches for different reasons
To be honest, this battle is a complete knockout to me, but not in accordance with the results so far. The 1992 team is fabulous all the way through. I love all the singles, and the albums by Beastie Boys, Tori Amos, and Arrested Development are among the best the early 90s have to offer.
The selections for 2012, on the other hand, are quite lackluster. As to be expected of a year from the past decade, every single album is indie rock, and each one is so-so at best, with the possible exception of Visions. I really don't care for any of the singles, either. Hood is the best of the five songs, and even then it's still not that great. In particular, this battle really illustrates the astonishing difference in quality between hip hop from the early 90s and the early 2010s. The 1992 team here has one of the greatest Beastie Boys albums, another album that's a grand example of conscious hip hop that you still want to move to, and a solid song by another excellent rap act. By contrast, 2012 has two raucous hip hop tracks that draw attention to themselves in all the wrong ways.
