Obviously this website is about finding the best albums there are, but were there any you listened to that were genuinely awful, disappointing, or just didn't live up to the hype? _________________ "If I could just leave my body for a night.... FJSDKFJKAJFKFJKDSFDKSJF"

Paint Songs by Super Brown. 1 star. Worst album I've ever heard.
I also heard what's said to be one of the worst. Squeeze by TVU. It's bad, but I wouldn't say it's one of the worst. It's one of the worst I've heard, but I gave it 2 stars, and I don't think the greatest travesties I'll ever hear would be above 1 star. It's not like I go looking for bad albums, so it might be a long time before I can find something I really don't like.

Luckily I haven't run into many that I genuinely didn't enjoyed. I've been disappointed in a couple albums, like Centipede Hz which I was looking forward to and stayed up to watch the live premier show. The album wasn't bad, but it was too busy for my liking and didn't have their signature songwriting techniques that I fell in love with.
The only bad album I forced myself to listen to was by the same band, actually. Animal Collective's second album, Dance Manatee was seemingly more static than songs. I love experimental music, but when it's just constant static with ridiculously loose rhythms, it's not that enjoyable. _________________ "If I could just leave my body for a night.... I could never get into AC. They have good albums, but I prefer Flaming Lips in terms of modern psychedelic/neo-psychedelia. MPP's a great album, though.
On the subject of bad albums, has anyone hear ever listened to an album to see how bad they are? I knowI did. Crazy Hits (I gave it a 5) and Squeeze by TVU (4).

I have to agree. I try to avoid as many records as I can that I know I won't like. But I do get disappointed. The most recent disappointment for me was this one:

xx by The xx
By no means is this the worst album ever. I just couldn't get into it. And I was really disappointed because I liked Intro a lot and I figured, "Hey, if this is only the introduction, this album may be amazing!" But I ended up not liking it. I don't know man, it just wasn't up my alley. _________________ ...and for dessert!

I dunno, I think they're pretty comparable. Maybe not necessarily a ton of sonic similarities, but something like Merriweather Post Pavilion or Centipede Hz. seems pretty comparable to The Soft Bulletin (the former) or Embryonic (the latter) in terms of tone and vibe. Obviously they started out from two very different places, but they're both critically acclaimed bands who put an experimental spin on pop music, and both could realistically be described as neo-psychedelia. They are far more similar to each other than either of them are to, say, Grizzly Bear. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
