THE ALBUMS

The Smiths - The Smiths
The Smiths' ability to turn shameless solipsism into incalculable stardom was their entirely unique accomplishment. With remarkable consistency and integrity, Manchester singer/lyricist (Stephen) Morrissey and company proudly represent the traditional values of selfishness, self-pity and the unbearable anguish of love. His melancholy romantic sensibility makes Elizabeth Barrett Browning sound like Nelson Algren. - Trouser Press

Link

The Minutemen - Double Nickles on the Dime
Jamming Econo

The Blue Nile - A Walk Across the Rooftops
The DNA of post-rock era Talk Talk are contained herein

"Do I love you? Yes, I love you!" Here's proof...

Link

The Bats - By Night EP
The Dunedin Sound gets ready to take over the (indie rock) world

Check out Galaxie 500’s crib notes...

Link

"and don't tell anyone what u have seen here..."

Link

The Butthole Surfers - Pychic...Powerless....Another Man's Sac
Unlike so many nouveau scuzzbos, Austin’s Buttholes don’t descend into the depths of of squalor to make a point about the human condition - they just like it down there. - Trouser Press

and I leave u all with some must see REPO TV...

Enjoy! (Thanks to Cellar for the inspiration!!!!)

Almost certainly going 84 here, just a few things I want to hear before hand.

Ha, that formatting issue

Anyways, Repo's team is pretty great, and Listmeisters is pretty bad.

But Leistmeister, why are you using an album you've never heard?

It's hilarious to me that Austin consistently tries to claim Butthole Surfers as their own, when they are in fact a San Antonio group.

Vote to '84

I was ready to say the exact same thing.

I'll be honest, I haven't heard everything on the '84 team (the By Night EP), but even without that, I couldn't vote against it. The Smiths album is enough to trump that '74 team for me.

But yeah, why use an album (possibly 2?) that you haven't heard yet Listmeister?

Court and Spark and Rock Bottom are all '74 really has going for it imo. That Bachman Turner Overdrive album is honestly one of the worst things I have ever heard

'84 is pretty dope though

Go Spurs

Just like when Seattle tried to claim Modest Mouse, Sleater Kinney or Beat Happening- Olympia is a seperate city people plz.

Anyways I think it may have to do with people just not wanting to associate the band with a city where people are always missing teeth and where no-one ever wants to comes 'round these here parts.

Go Spurs

Anyhooz, I have to admit I still haven't heard Rock Bottom but beyond Court and Spark 74 is a barren westland. 84 on the other hand is nearly perfect top to bottom, that Whodini single esp gets me all damp and bothered. Still haven't heard Blue Nile though so may do some listening to that and Wyatt before voting but at this point it's like 9-1 in 84's favor.

Well, team, I'm not gonna lie to you. We got shelled. Shelled like Steven Colbert's pistachios. I'm disappointed by the response to Bachman-Turner Overdrive, I still think it was fun rock-and-roll. Rory, you didn't do too bad for a rookie, I just hope a few people gave you a listen before they made their choice. I stand by that call. Joni, Bob, well done, heard some good things. Sweet, you're still awesome, I'm still a fan.

Again, not gonna lie, I don't think we're coming back from this one. RepoMan's pre-gloating seems to have been justified. Good game, Repo, I'm glad I won't have to face you again. But we're gonna try to learn from our mistakes and come out swinging next game.
