I'm finding these both really odd, but strangely compelling choices for singles
Thhhiiiiink I'll be going with '94 here though. Just gotta give that Plastikman album a listen sometime this week. _________________ Submit Your List for BEA's 2023 Film Poll!
I expected to come here and find myself voting 1994 without a second thought, based on the fact that 1994 is responsible for many of my favourite albums and is being curated by JoD, whose tastes broadly align with mine a lot of the time, whereas 1974 is being curated by Listmeister, a man whose taste in music seems to be made up almost entirely of things that I really don't like. But this is a really close call. 1974 has the best two singles here ('T.S.O.P.' and 'Nothing from Nothing'), but 1994 has 'Original Nuttah', to whose relentless beat I sacrificed many a brain cell between the ages of fifteen and twenty. I'm finding it difficult to decide what my favourite album here is (it's either Ready to Die or I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight), and each team has three albums I like-but-don't-love, and one album that really isn't my bag (although The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway isn't anywhere near as intolerable as The Downward Spiral). I think I slightly prefer the Roman Candle/Musik/Dummy triumvirate to the Radio City/Kimono My House/Phaedra one, but there isn't a lot in it. Gonna have to think about this one for a bit. (I'm not sure I could possibly consider a faithful rendition of 'The Entertainer' to be a 1974 single, though.) _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
It pains me to vote against 'I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight', an album I wholeheartedly adore, but as a whole I think I have to vote 1994, 'Roman Candle' is in my top 10 and I also think 'Ready To Die', Dummy' and 'The Downward Spiral' are great, I prefer those three to any album on the 1974 team (aside from 'I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight' of course). Singles swing in favour of 1994 too. So 1994 it is. _________________
Don't like The Lamb, but don't like The Downward Spiral either. Will have to listen to this Plastikman release before I can choose, I like what I know from him, might be the decider (even though the rest of that '74 albums team is splendid, bravo meister).
