Wow, it's almost as though this chart was designed to be the apotheosis of music I can't stand. The Wall, my least favourite Beatles album, ELO, Rumours, Boston, Breakfast in America, two (two!) Dire Straits albums, Vampire Weekend, and I'm not even outside the top fifteen. Impressive work. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.

Neil definitely loves mainstream music (Beyonce is one of his favorite albums, and Santana's Supernatural is his favorite album), but I think he's just tired of the boring white-men-with-guitars dadrock canon. It's just so boring.
There are some great picks on this chart (especially love the inclusion of Frank Ocean at the end), but that #1 makes me wonder once more: Does ECUPirate's dad sell life insurance?

The only Dire Straits I've ever heard is "Romeo and Juliet," which is the perfect level of schmaltz and soaring, unbounded '80s stadium rock flair to my ears. I never want to saturate that sound in my ears, because that song is the final relic of a long lost age of passionate devotion to androgynous vocals being drowned out by guitars that overcompensated in kind and the "stripped-down" "minimal" "feelsy" songs that served as a contrast. I could see a hardened biker drinking himself under the table listening to it in a river-front bar a bit upstate from here. It's beautiful in every way.
EDIT: I decided to rewatch the music video, and I just realized that it's a perfect re-appropriation of fascist aesthetics in decay to the rising neoliberal eighties. The fucking tear coming out of the eye that takes up the whole frame. I know this has literally nothing to do with this thread because this song isn't even on an album on this chart (I think) but holy shit I'm losing my mind.

I'll keep that in mind. White people playing guitars are boring and for dad's..lmao. I guess we all have our own taste and that's what makes music great.

Everybody's music taste is different. A few users on this website apparently have trouble understanding and respecting that. Which is very surprising to me since I assume music plays an important role in all of our lives. I'll stick to what I like, whether some of it is "dadrock" or not, and Apple can stick to his Avril Lavine. I'm fine with that.
