I've noticed that the only way to add an album that's not on the website is to put it on the chart. At least from what I can tell. It's a bit annoying to take off an album, add the album missing, and put back the original.
The point of this is so only the "Best Ever Albums" exist in the DB. You'll notice that other important info like album credits, issues, and genre classifications are excluded for this reason. The BEA DB is not meant to be a comprehensive album DB.
The integration of the forum and the clear incentive of huge numbers of mod points from adding album releases betrays this notion, however, in my opinion, and I agree that since it's de facto part of BEA for people to just add any albums to the DB that it should be formalized that we can for ease of access and so that new members who have cool tastes can gain levels more quickly without having to mess with their Overall charts or earn the right to custom charts for DB additions.
