Edit: I went back and realized this topic was already brought up in 2012 and I understand the reasons against. And I even agree with the fact that you should be able encompass your favorite albums with the current format. That being said, im still gonna post my original statement of nothing more than for the sake of argument.

Below was going to be my original post.

Probably only after a certain level is reached (tbd), but I've noticed a few ppl have custom chars for "overall honorable mentions. I think those albums should get the credit. This stems from the fact that i noticed how I can have a an album at say #75 of the year and it gets as many bea points as the album that got into the 100 spot of my overall.

Is anyone in agreement?

Hmm, why do you say that?

Because of exactly the problem you mentioned. While it's different for year's like 2015 and a little bit backward, not even the forum regulars have listened to 100 albums from, say, 1983 (with a few exceptions), so most times it's just a catalogue of everything they've listened to that year. And for that, we give the same point system to stuff that ends up on the Decade or even Overall charts?

Yeah i agree with you. And i dont have an answer, but in the current year you sort of need the years to have points so you can track what ppl are listening to and enjoying.

I imagine this will get backlash (because, change) but i think there needs to be a more defined difference for credit given to albums in the 3 categories.

Something like: Albums in your overall being assigned a point value from 1000 - 100, decades from 100-10 and year from 10-1. Yes the number values for the most popular albums will sky rocket but the order will remain the same, and this way there is no overlap.

I'm not sure I totally understand the issue here, but year and decade charts have a much lower weight on the site than overall charts. An album ranked at 75 in the year will receive significantly less points than an album ranked 100 in the overall chart (year charts have a 5 point maximum & overall charts 100).
