I got the latest issue of Q yesterday. Top 100 90s album special feature.
The top ten was 10. Dig your own hole 9. Different class 8. Definitely maybe 7.entroducing 6. Bjorks debut 5. Ill communication 4. Jeff buckleys grace 3. In utero 2. Maxinquaye 1. Ok computer
What do you think of that and what are your top 5?
Pretty surprising they'd put Maxinquaye at #2, that's pretty cool.
My favorite album of the 90s is Bee Thousand and the rest are probably Transaction De Novo, Red House Painters, Lazer Guided Melodies and Loveless, or Alien Lanes if I'm being honest. The order doesn't really matter to me.
Screamadelica by Primal Scream Die Festung by Paysage D'hiver Selected Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin Quique by Seefeel (or Succour it is very close)
Through Silver in Blood by Neurosis
I think Ive sort of realized that the 90s are my favorite decade.
there's some shit here but this is miles ahead of a lot of big publication 90s lists I've seen
my personal top 10 atm (though it's not nearly as cool as Nech's)
Amon Tobin - Bricolage
MBV - Loveless
Nas - Illmatic
Dälek - Negro Necro Nekros
Oval - 94 Diskont
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume II
Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus
Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children
John Zorn - Naked City
Eliane Radigue - Trilogie De La Mort
only stuff that i think has a reasonable choice of having been recorded/composed (whichever is more relevant to the genre in question) in the '90s in instances i don't know, so 77 Live, Divine Music from a Jail, Boulez's Webern recordings, etc. aren't here:
