I don't have much to say right now but I love that we've started a music diaries section.

Sweet Lights by Sweet Lights

Here's a record from 2012 I'm currently listening to. It's nothing exceptionally unique. Just your average indie rock with very good songwriting. The type of album that I always enjoy far more than I expect. People who enjoy Dr Dog will probably like it.

My old buddy Christopher Paul Stelling arrives in Santa Fe last night. Played a intimate show in my living room. Prior to leaving Brooklyn, I saw CPS play nearly once a month, so it was interesting last night. Touring constantly for the past year has really elevated him even more as a performer. Show in Taos tonight. Then a few days of hanging out, drinkin whiskey, and exploring the outdoors before he heads up to Colorado.

If you haven't heard his new record, make it a point to do so. If you don't trust me, trust BEA's tastemaker Skinny who has quite a few positive things to say about it.

Zamknęły Się Oczy Ziemi by Stara Rzeka

After the sun went down yesterday, I put this on and drifted off. Had no idea it was out until Skinny posted on his music diary. Back at it this morning. Few records I've heard this year have been such a rewarding experience.

Finally attempting to update my 2015 chart
http://www.besteveralbums.com/thechart.php?c=23222

There's some other things that could very well make the next update (Grimes, Daniel Romano, John Grant, Billy Woods, Girl Band, Car Seat Headrest) but they'll need a few more listens.

Here's new some stuff I had to add to the database with the recent update:

Bleaksploitation by Katie Von Schleicher

If you love that Natalie Prass record, I think you'll enjoy this. Bleaksploitation adds a little doom and gloom to that blue-eyed soul style.

North Collins by North Collins

The new project by the violinist from O'Death with his wife. It's a sort of atmospheric noir version of folk.

Loneliness Is Blue And Not Blue by Phil...cal Zombie

If you like the new Wilco record, but wish it were grimier, you need to hear this new Philosophical Zombie record.

currently listening to:

History Will Absolve Me by Billy Woods

Totally brilliant. Not sure why it took me so long to get to.

Revisiting some stuff from 2013, The Besnard Lakes record is one that I enjoyed but I don't think I fully appreciated it until now.

Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO by T...nard Lakes

Sweeping space rock with bits of shoegaze and some great Beach Boys-influenced vocals. I loved their previous two records and at the time of release I think I felt disappointed. I could still see people being down on there not being enough variation from song to song but the album itself has a phenomenal overall sonic aesthetic.

My head hasn't been right the past week or so. Music is just washing right over me. A troubling obsession with politics/current events combined with an overwhelming queue of new music to listen to has left me pretty comatose. In this state, I've found myself mostly circulating between the same few albums, Carrie & Lowell, Divers, the new Stara Rzeka, Labor Against Waste, etc.

Once again today I'm trying to absorb some new records.

First up was Cavanaugh's Time & Materials. The Open Mike Eagle + Serengeti collaboration was good one time through, and I'll be returning to it again to get a better feel.

Currently listening to Port St Willow's new album Syncope. He's a mate of The Antlers and take from some of the same influences, but his music is much more atmospheric, drawing heavily from Talk Talk. His voice carries it. As with his debut, something seems to be lacking on the songwriting end, but the music does contain a strong ethereal quality that makes it a pleasurable listening experience.

Still hoping to give the new Grimes another go, but my current somber mood is not particularly fitting
