Kicking a Couple Around, The Doctor Came at Dawn and Red Apple Falls mark his peak period imo. While Wild Love is excellent (and contains such classics as "Bathysphere"), I have my difficulties with Julius Caesar (and Forgotten Foundations), I always feel lik I'm eavesdropping on a shrink session.

Anyway, superdope discography (even the dub album has its appeal). I've seen him live too, and yes, he puts up great concerts, extremely moving but relaxed. Intense and cool.

I started out with Knock Knock and Julius Caesar when I first was introduced to him a few years ago. Think Knock Knock is still my favorite Smog album, though they're all very good. Been partial to his albums under his own name recently though. The live set was very short, only three songs long, but I was within a meter of him as he was on a stage only a few inches high in a very intimate setting, as he seemed to be visibly shaken by each word he sung. Very gripping.

Over the past couple months, Lol Coxhill has become one of my absolute favorite saxophonists, right up there competing with Albert Ayler, Sam Rivers, Marion Brown, Ornette Coleman, Anthony Braxton, and John Coltrane.
