Oh goodness not again.

They're both really good, but Carrie & Lowell lacks any of the cultural significance TPAB has. It could be my generation's Blood on the Tracks, but this probably would never happen if it wasn't for this site's horrible indie-rock bias.

pretending that Kendrick is getting snubbed because of rockism is sorta laughable imo. like, TPAB is the most indie kid appealing rap album since MBDTF. as much as (white) critics like to talk about how "black" and "opaque" it is for their core audiences, it's exactly what rockists want from rap music - apparent "complexity" and "depth." like, if you want really appalling music to rockists, Young Thug and Fetty Wap have a way more future (oh, there's another one! ha!), transgressive sound. Kendrick's album is like a more baroque throwback to the era of rap music that rockist publications never want to end - the so-called "golden age" of the '90s where that 808s shit hadn't made everything turn to garbage in their minds. that isn't a value judgment against the album (i like it probably a lot less than people here, but i still like it) or people who gravitate towards it who don't typically listen to hip hop, but if you want music getting snubbed by rockists, you should probably pick music that isn't getting rave reviews and continued think pieces from corporate music media on the daily. the reason Sufjan is edging him out is because overall charts don't count yet imo

Yeah, I had similar thoughts. It's more "rock" than the Sufjan album. Just not white. Pure rockism would put put Tame Impala at #1
