Space Jam soundtrack was my first taste of hip-hop, and later The Blueprint was a major catalyst. Was already pretty big into hip-hop and various strands of electronic music by the time I heard Endtroducing for the first time, and - even though I liked it - it certainly didn't have a major effect on me (emotionally or in terms of convincing me to try other stuff). I can see why it would have those effects on others, though.

I'd like to forget that Eminem has done so much work with Rihanna

Listening to the song again (which I never realized was on MMLP2), this is definitely the most I've ever enjoyed him outside of the Tori Amos "97 Bonnie & Clyde" cover. Like, it seems genuinely Max Martin quality.

oh, yeah, the Blueprint and Stankonia were big for me, too.

strangely, i didn't get into Kanye even though i tried him a lot until the huge /mu/ circle-jerk over the MBDTF leak. around the time that leaked, i would listen to it every single day (the walk/bus ride and bus ride/walk that started and ended my high school days was perfect length for this) and i told my friends (who were all like Beatles/Dylan/Stones fans) that Kanye West had made the AOTY and i remember being really excited when Pitchfork validated me with that 10. The Tori Amos cover shows a different but even more disturbing genius in that song.

Eminem is sort of like Adele for me. I know that there's no one else like him, and that he's got skills out the wazoo, but at the end of the day, who gives a shit?

I was into electronic music of all sorts before I really got a taste of hip-hop, so instrumental hip-hop was a real entry point for me with this album and Donuts being the two that I spun the most (aided by stuff from Cut Chemist, DJ Krush, RJD2, and the various members of the LA beat scene). This continues to hold up and remain an all-time favorite no matter how far away my music tastes are from when I first discovered it.

Had a chance to see Shadow live with Cut Chemist over in Oakland a little while ago and it was one of the best concert experiences I've ever had
