Beneath The Raging Sea by Amish Rage

i think i've finally settled on the album art for this. it could still change (more detail perhaps?), but this feels about right. going to be updating playlists on spotify and soundcloud as it comes together. i've narrowed the album down to twenty-four songs that i want to record. final lp will probably get cut down to somewhere around 14, depending on how it flows and whatnot.

biggest challenge is finding time to record. i've also been trying to up my guitar hero a bit on a couple tracks, and it turns out that writing interesting guitar solos is harder than i was expecting it to be. i'll write something try-hard. then i'll cut it back, and it gets sounding all flaccid and lame. or it gets sounding so bluesy that i lose interest in playing altogether. somewhere in the middle of all of that though, i think there's a sweet spot.

i've given it enough listens now that i think i can confidently say this is modest mouse's best work since good news for people who like bad news. granted, the two albums between then and now were pretty bland, disappointing, caricaturist, but they both had their moments. i'm actually enjoying the new album quite a bit.

He lost his left eye at birth
Only ever knew his glass eye
But he was grateful what he had
Two eyes that loved him like a king
And though he saw the angel’s reflection
He could never reach out and touch her flame
Not til both eye glass and organic left him
River wash boot log songs dried up
The angels below wept through the night
And gave up their song forever

i suspect we all have a handful of pet peeves that likely look rather derisory to the casual observer. one that i've been stewing on lately is the irregularity of seven. rhythmically, it's a tad obtuse, which leads to issues when counting out a beat. years ago, i stopped pronouncing it seven in my head, concatenating it to "sen" or "ven" instead, depending on my mood. it struck me today that i'm further annoyed at its length, as well as a few others, who don't play well with others. henceforth, it has been decided, whether by the voices in my head or simply by my ornery demeaner, that i shall scribe numbers as follows, at least as it pertains to music:

Code:
01 | ONE | one
02 | TWO | two
03 | TRE | tre
04 | FOR | for
05 | IVE | ive
06 | SIX | six
07 | SEN | sen
08 | EHT | eht
09 | NIN | nin
10 | TEN | ten
11 | LEV | lev
12 | WEL | wel

i could keep going, but it's confusing enough to make this switch, and i don't go beyond twelve much anywho. i'm particularly fond of three letter acronyms (TLA), so cutting things down to three makes enough sense. plus, four of those numbers are already three letters long, so a third of the retraining is already finished.
