I'm listening to Blackstar for the first time since the tragic news this morning after several spins this WE.
It's obviously even more affecting, but the album has a wonderful energy despite the morbid atmosphere. A great creative statement from an artist who knew he was dying.

It has been a strange day. RIP

I'd say it's his best since at least Outside

I think it's far better than Outside. I'd even say it's his best since Scary Monsters. It's a really cool album, I'm hoping to give it another listen later.

Ain't no way it's better than Let's Dance

I think it's definitely close in quality to that stuff and likely better than anything since but definitely doesn't have the massive hits that Scary Monsters and Let's Dance had.

I listened to Blackstar for the first time last night and just hearing the news the second I woke up this morning shook me. Station To Station and Hunky Dory are old reliables to me, albums that I've felt I can turn to when needed, Bowie was just one of 'those' artists, where it's hard to not find anything to appreciate in his music. Bowie's helped me and I'm sure many others too more than he'll ever have known, and for that I am forever grateful.

I think whenever a music legend dies, one of their albums should be AOTD.
