Bob Dylan had more significant influence on popular music through his exposure in the 1960's, but Morrison in my opinion is the most underrated artist of the 20th century.

Astral Weeks > Highway 61, Times They Are a-Changin', Blonde on Blonde > Any Beatles Album

he's massively popular, gets regular radio play, and everyone pontificates at length about their love of Astral Weeks. how is he underrated? all that said, i would take Astral Weeks over Dylan's entire discography, yeah.

Astral Weeks > Any Bob Dylan Album > Any Beatles Album

I love Van Morrison and Astral Weeks, but there's a reason Bob Dylan is a much more prominent figure in pop culture. I mean, who do you see standing behind Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. while he's giving his "I have a dream" speech? That's just one example and doesn't really say anything about his studio work, but Dylan's music brought about a lot of change, not only in the music world but withinn the realm of politics and culture as well.

And yeah, Van Morrison is incredibly popular. Underrated isn't really a word that comes to mind. If being less popular than Bob Dylan makes you underrated basically every artist, save maybe the Beatles, would be considered underrated.

Wut?

Yeah this is silly.

Astral Weeks goes back and forth with whatever my favorite Dylan album is at the time. Perfection is perfection.

sure, but only because Dylan was still releasing music in the '80s and filled his discography with some truly abysmal records. i would take any Dylan album from the sixties over any Beatles record by a wide, wide margin.

I personally would take the MUSIC of Morrison over Dylan any day.

Lyrics... well Dylan any day.

I still voted Astral Weeks. I'd prefer to listen to Astral Weeks, then Moondance, and then The Times Are A Changin' (my favorite Dylan album).

He's underrated in total impact and importance in music history, where The Beatles are overrated.

Morrison had a significant impact on rock music and notably Jim Morrison of The Doors - who emulated his performing and singing style from Them, after touring together. Many people would list Springsteen as a more influential artist than Morrison, who likewise emulated his songwriting style and hired musicians from Astral Weeks.

Dylan is Morrison's peer and a great artist, but Morrison's best record and songwriting is still in a different category than Dylan's, in my opinion. And the extent of Morrison's influence is not accurately noted by many.

I don't think Dylan's best record is level with Astral Weeks.
