So, to revisit this, does anyone have ideas for how they'd like a template to potentially look? I'm thinking maybe instead of trying to look at the arc of a genre as a whole, messy process, we might be better served to pick out key acts, expand on their little personal arcs, and then have reference-heavy fillings in between bits for those curious about that epoch of the genre's development. So, for black metal, for example, I would probably write a few sentences each about Bathory, Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Venom, Mercyful Fate for the first wave, maybe a few sentences about Blasphemy if we think war metal is appropriate to list under black metal, but then I'd have some decently crafted sentence or even just a "You Might Also Like" list of bands from that period. Wikipedia, for example, follows this format roughly. Then, at the end, you could pick maybe a representative album of each epoch or each major subgenre of the genre you're doing to spur discussion and serve as an entryway for people new to the genre in the thread. I guess conversely, we could minimize the encyclopedic nature of OPs by just picking those representative albums of each epoch and/or subgenre and then kind of giving a decent amount of context for that album. That way, people would have maybe three or four albums to listen to over the course of the week complete with a paragraph or two on each explaining its place in the history/soundscape of the genre for further exploration, and we could center discussion on a handful of albums to maximize accessibility.

I’d be willing to put in the work back into this if people were interesting in reading and discussing what I have to say. I think a lot of what made me gave up outside of me focusing on my creative writing over my technical writing outlets is that my next genre I was booked to talk about was power metal but given the community’s lackluster feelings toward the style I sort of felt disheartened as a whole.

Well you know I'd love to see a power metal thread, but I understand your reservations.
I think we can just wipe the slate clean and kind of start anew with this, if there's interest. Whatever genres people had assigned to them a billion years ago when we were doing this can just be forgotten. We can get some nominations, a poll, all that going to see what people would be interested in. _________________ 2023 Chart

I'd still be willing to do that Power Metal thread, but it won't suddenly breathe life into the forum is all I'm saying.

Yea, I get what you're saying. I think having a handful of people doing the GE would generate a good amount of discussion _________________ 2023 Chart

But I’m oddly in the mood to discuss power metal, so I’m cool with doing that at the first go like I did for stoner rock.

I'm totally down for that.
If anyone else is interested in writing something on a genre, please post something in here and say you are, I'd like to gauge interest _________________ 2023 Chart
