I've had a look at your chart - and to be honest there's nothing there i'd listen to. I'd never even heard of "Melodic Metal" or any of the bands on there... So.....i'm taking a plunge and have downloaded your favourite album - Kamelot - the Black Halo (i figure if it's your favorite album, therefore it's the best representation of this genre!)...i'll let you know how it goes....

Awesome!! Just to let you know, The Black Halo is the second part of Kamelot's 2-part concept album; Epica being the first part. It should not make a huge difference, but if you are trying to understand exactly what the lyrics mean, it may be confusing with regards to the story.

What do you define 'heavy' as? Fast? Highly compressed? Low frequencies? Percussion-driven?

Actually, since you like Porcupine Tree, here's an electronic-ish b-side from Steven Wilson's solo album:

I don't know. I am not a fan of the "growling" vocals, which is what Opeth does deal with. I know that they do have clean vocals too, and an entire album of just clean vocals, but I just have never really gotten into them. Probably because I haven't really given them a fair listen, which should maybe happen.
