I've had a look at your chart - and to be honest there's nothing there i'd listen to. I'd never even heard of "Melodic Metal" or any of the bands on there... So.....i'm taking a plunge and have downloaded your favourite album - Kamelot - the Black Halo (i figure if it's your favorite album, therefore it's the best representation of this genre!)...i'll let you know how it goes....
Awesome!! Just to let you know, The Black Halo is the second part of Kamelot's 2-part concept album; Epica being the first part. It should not make a huge difference, but if you are trying to understand exactly what the lyrics mean, it may be confusing with regards to the story.
Oh wait... they are not prog at all. I am just promoting my favorite band.

hahaha that was so mean, there is plenty of great 'melodic metal'.. what I'd rather reer to as prog metal...
re: peoples suggestions.. mr shankly .. I think you were going by whats on your chart, so most of the stuff I know of/like/dont like that you mentioned but hadnt heard of these.. 'Daydream Nation is phenomenal, but Sister, Goo, Dirty, Evol and Murray Street are all good too.' ill go for a search...
Necharsian I'll give kamelot a go.. surprised from your chart that opeth aren't on there... or are you not a fan?
cartoken.. sorry not sure where that is, but will check out at some stage
polythene pam, This Will destroy you will check out << what kind of music?
wheres the heavy electronic music up in this bitch?
lol but the recommendations don't have to be heavy really, just not that indie soft cock electronic is all... justice level is ok.. (not really a fan of them at all but literally just got into that genesis track)

I don't know. I am not a fan of the "growling" vocals, which is what Opeth does deal with. I know that they do have clean vocals too, and an entire album of just clean vocals, but I just have never really gotten into them. Probably because I haven't really given them a fair listen, which should maybe happen.
