The Beatles were fab period: that's why I'm going to see a 70 year old geezer playing Beatles songs next Thursday.
If you don't know who I mean: it's Paul McCartney Laughing

First time?

I almost went to the only time a Beatle has played Salt Lake City, and then the cheapest tickets were like $100. And I know that's probably worth it for some, and even though I'm a huge fan, I just couldn't do it.

And yes, I said fad, but the Beatles... had they not gone through the transformations they went through with the help of George Martin... They'd be almost nothing to me and equal a fad of say the Monkees or something. I mean I still kind of like their early work, it's decent pop rock, but it just doesn't have the weight of their Rubber Soul and onward albums have.

Not all artists have that opportunity to grow like that. Some have a one hit wonder album, and then everything else is a flop. Or they have a lot of mediocre work and somehow people latch on to it (we build something out of it instead of the art itself standing on it's own leg).

I've talked about this before... the idea of Reader Response Theory (in this case the "text" is sound, so probably more like listener response). But anyway, do we project something on to those "great" bands and really they aren't that fantastic, or are they really are that fantastic? I lean a bit more on the side of they really are that fantastic. They meet that bitter sweet aesthetic that I love (pop music that is simultaneously anti-pop). Is it right to devalue a fad? IDK... I find fad's having lower value, but maybe people thrive off of them. They can't wait for the next new thing and the fact that isn't the canon, it somehow has this higher value, and the canon is just full of over inflated artists (I constantly hear this full of themselves talk, and I still am not clear how that is perceived at a musical level unless the group is doing this like 10 minute wanking instrumental thing that is clearly not a discovery, but a here's how awesome I am). Or they are directly saying they are the shit. But that's my favorite song by Weezer: The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Varia... by Weezer

Anyway, enjoy the concert. Let me know if it is worth the money!

hahahah

Kinda... had a stressful week and thought it'd be fun to post nonsense. Most of what I write is anyway... what's the difference... ahahaha.

Anyway.................................

Super exciting news (for me at least).

I started this project on something like January 18th, and I am 23 albums away from being done with my project. At the end of the project I will have listened to and/or skimmed 1575 albums!!!

I'd say about 75% of these I listed to all the way through in this time frame. About 15% of that 25% I skimmed through stuff I almost had memorized, but wanted to rate anyway. The remaining 10% was stuff that I listened to maybe 2 songs on the album all the way, and then gave the rest a 30 to 60 second preview and if it sounded like the two songs I already disliked, I didn't waste my time on them more.

I will finally be able to complete some of my other goals (which should go by REAL quick since the hard work has been done). The only thing I have left is to journal my favorite albums... or at least an attempt to articulate why I love them so. It probably is a worthless task, but helps me keep my mind off reality and is healthier than meth.

Well here's the 2010s so far, remaining 23 albums at the top (sorted now by rating and *** indicates the 23 remaining):

By the way, listening to this much music has been a bit mind numbing (kind of like playing video games for 10 hours straight), but was very rewarding in the end to get finally survey so much music I wanted to listen to.

Thanks dihansse Smile.

Well I did it. Finished my project of each decade. First run through of the 2010s at least. After 248 albums of the 2010s, here's my list:
Top 100 Music Albums of the 2010s by sethmadsen

If anyone is interested here's my master list of the 1577 album project I finally finished!!! Sadly, I feel like I only scratched the surface!!! ahaha: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/...sp=sharing

Now I have so much data to comb through and refine my favorite double albums (and then finally decide to apply the dihansse rule to all of them or not), my overall list, all those 10 or 11 goals I had. I started a test list and I think I will do one artist per album to "properly represent".

I added a new goal for a yearly/decade/artist focused project Smile.
