Elvis Costello is one of my favourite artists and a great inspiration to me as a songwriter. This was the first album of his that I heard. While I think The Attractions suited his style better than Clover, this album has some great playing, and is full of classics. Great opening line- "now that your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired"- which sets the tone to come. Other witty barbs follow. But the best song here is definitely Alison, one of his best songs period.
I would definitely recommend this album to everyone. It takes a while to click, but it's worth the time. It's a good starting point for EC (go chronologically), just the start of a career that is one of the most vital in modern music, imo.
