I could get behind this, though ultimately I am still pretty much in agreeance with Rocky

So we got a mixed answer/on the fence answers from others.
Who makes the final call?
The voting system came from skinny, who like me basically says if it sticks and we don't like it we can always change the format. Some said they like voting, but nomination should have reason. And
Is there a way to vote and do ALC? The thing I like about voting is it represents the whole community/something whole community can have voice for and participate in weekly. If 3 albums in a row are boring to me I have to wait three weeks to see if anything is interesting. Voting allows for nomination anytime (which in turn is Hotspot for album discovery) and then weekly participation/effort to push for something your passionate about.

If somebody were to set out an initial thread outlining what they thought were some interesting ideas about certain albums that are rarely mentioned elsewhere, I'm up for discussing any album. The problem with those top albums is that so many of our views have already been discussed in the past on BEA, or are otherwise (consciously or not) informed by mainstream publications that I don't exactly see a huge amount of scope for new discussion, but I could certainly be wrong. It depends on to what extent people are willing or able to say something fresh about those canonical classics. I'd just start a thread to take nominations, pick the first eight, and put them to a poll for a couple of days. The nominee would then be responsible for setting up the thread. (Or something along those lines.) If it doesn't work, we go back to drawing board. |

Also how many people forget they nominated something because it is 2 months out?
Idk, there's pros and cons of both systems.
I suppose if I'm managing it I can do whatever the hell I wasn't and if people don't want to participate, then don't, or this thread can be deleted and start fresh with the nomination system and either someone else can manage that or something.
Nice thing about this system is anyone can start the voting thread really. It also gets discussion in forum...as good as stickied is to always be at top, sometimes I don't pay attention to them.

Wow, I just read that and totally didn't mean I really don't care about people's opinion... I didn't care about the format.
Here's a nomination for next week: (criminally ranked in the 500s):

For real. It's been over two weeks since the idea was posed. Just freakin' start one already.
Would totally be excited to discuss this one. Terrific album. _________________ on such a winter's day

Feel free to unsticky this.
Feel free to just start talking about albums you wish to discuss.
Feel free to create a new version of this that works like the ALC.

I've recently been blown away with Father Murphy's Croce (2015). It is an avant-folk-noise album. It feels like a haunting, otherworldly descent into the occult. It walks a line between religiously devotional/intensely focused/contemplative and apocalyptic/violent ritual/mindless submission. A bit reminiscent of The Residents at their peak, I feel it is among the very best albums of the 2010's (Rock or Jazz). Has any one around here heard it? What do you think?
