Love Coltrane and I love this album. Beautiful yet accessible jazz. I think because of it's aura, A Love Supreme is John's best, but this isn't far behind.

To think that this was only his second album and he was already performing some of the tightest hard-bop tunes the world has ever seen. Bloody fantastic.

Far less impressive than his 60's work (Coltrane was still working within conventional Bop structures) but still very good.

Amazing album in every way. Coltrane has complete mastery of both his music and his instrument. While it isn't as forward leaning as his later works, it's still superior to most of them--sometimes achieving absolute perfection in an established genre (hard bop) is even more difficult than plowing new terrain. This is a close second in his unbelievable catalog, just a hair behind A Love Supreme and well ahead of everything else.
