Whats the best online store to buy mp3's?
Give me an idea of cost per song or monthly subscription, downloading issues... basically the pro's and con's..
this is a decent start
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison...sic_stores
Hopefully with everyone's contributions we can formulate a view on what the best online store is or what's best for the individual.

If you're into more obscure artists with just a smattering of known names, eMusic might be what you're looking for. Monthly subscription (don't recall what offhand, I joined on a trial basis a couple years ago then cancelled my membership before being charged - they still send me "we want you back" e-mails on a weekly basis).
Obviously iTunes as the dominant name in pay-per-song/album options out there. But you pretty much have to have an iPod still. They said they'd be making all kinds of changes, but I haven't seen the result of that yet - still looks to me like every song was 99cents.
Amazon.com also has mp3s - have to download their proprietary download software, but then it can be used on any player (have to convert for iPod though). Tracks are under $1.
If you search a song title with "mp3" after it, you ought to come up with a whole host of sites. _________________ <(: @ >

Play.com, you can re-download tunes once you've purchased them, and the bit rate is 320kbps, which is cd quality, more than amazon's 256kbps, but obviously takes more memory per song.

Noticed that Amazon MP3 is quite a bit cheaper than the iTunes Store on a lot of albums (and you don't have to use the fricking iTunes software to make your purchase).
Do people use any of the subscription services? (not seen any mentioned as being used on this thread)
