Well... "Low" turns 40 on the 14th and "Heroes" follows close behind in a few months (10th of October). So let's have a poll to determine our favorite, why don't we?
Now I think both these records a both worthy of 10s and I love the reinvention and revitalization these records (The Berlin Trilogy) & Brian Eno (especially seeing as I'm a massive fan of his album, Another Green World which came 2 years prior) brought to Bowie's catalog. So - naturally - I'm interested to see what you all think. _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:

I really can't decide between the two. Low has the better instrumentals, but its rock tracks and lyrics aren't as good. "Heroes"' instrumentals aren't quite as good as on Low, but has better lyrics and rock songs, and it contains the title track, which is my third favourite song of all time. They're both excellent albums.

Of course Low is going to win (Thank you Pitchfork) but I feel attentive listening proves Heroes to be the greater work -- not by a lot though. His first and second best albums. _________________ Best Classical

I honestly felt guilty for voting for "Low" myself. They're both equal in my eyes but I think you're on the money when saying that "Heroes" comes out better off in the long haul, even though "Low" is extremely solid to start off with. Then again, "Heroes" does have the better ambient second half, now that I think about it.
And yeah, didn't Pitchfork name it as their #1 album of the '70s? _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:

'Heroes' gets unfairly overlooked compared to Low, but Low is the better album through and through.
Apart from 'Heroes' itself, which is easily one of my top ten songs (who's isn't it?), there isn't a song I would prefer on 'Heroes' than any song on Low.

I agree with the majority hear, Low is the better album overall while Heroes has THE best Bowie song of all time.
Another interesting poll would be Hunky Dory/Ziggy vs Low/Heroes.

Honestly, my favourite Bowie songs are 'Sound and Vision', 'Breaking Glass', 'Rebel Rebel', 'Moonage Daydream', 'Golden Years', 'Kooks', and 'Young Americans'. 'Heroes' would struggle to make the top twenty. And Low is probably my favourite Bowie album (though I go back and forth with Station to Station), whereas Heroes barely scrapes the top ten. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Low is easily my favourite Bowie album between the two but Heroes has been my favourite Bowie song for 24 years. Its awesome. Shame its album is not so good.

I've said this to people before (and not very dissimilar to this way either). _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:

I can't vote in the forums yet, but I would go with "Heroes". I'm a uber Bowie fan and collector and have everything he's done - for me "Heroes" has the lyrics, the passionate histrionic vocals from Bowie (rather than the detached vocals on Low), Robert Fripp's experimental guitar over Ricky Gardener's more traditional playing.
The instrumentals on the second side of Low are all great, but it does drag having them all back to back. Heroes improves on the formula by having less of them and following the beautiful Moss Garden with the excellent "Secret Life of Arabia".
