Really?! I'd love to hear the story behind this one since this is widely considered a classic and one of their best.

I think private press is a bit like what I said about that cure album, it follows an outright classic and gets measured against it. Obviously nowhere near endtroducing but ahead of almost everything else in that style. Outsider was like Shocked Have I been given the wrong cd?

Speaking of which, UNKLE was also so disappointing to me as i recall. Because i was a fan of both DJ Shadow n James Lavelle. But the amazing thing is, James Lavelles mix albums are fantastic. I have HUNDREDS of mix albums, and 3 or 4 of his are probably in my Top 20 favorites. But to this day I'm still disappointed every time UNKLE'and DJ Shadow put out an album. This could be because i just listen to so much of that kind of music. Idk.

Think I had that first UNKLE album in my overall at one point, love it. Basically shadow with guests, great ones too. I've heard plenty of lavelles mixes over the years, good stuff. I think the other UNKLE albums are decent too.

I find it hard to choose from a bunch of Neil Young albums.

Elastica: The Menace

After this britpop/neo-post-punk jewel that was their first eponymous album, this was a great disapointment. All the tunes had disappeared (Damon Albarn was no longer helping out on the songwriting, and it showed spectacularly)

Initially, it was Rush/Signals. However, over the years, I came to understand what a brilliant album it is despite the change in sound that first turned me off.

It's hard to say what my biggest disappointment that remains disappointing is. Off the top of my head, I'd probably have to go with Led Zeppelin/In Through the Out Door or Rush/Counterparts with (dis)honorable mention to The Who/It's Hard.

I forgot about this one but you are absolutely right. and it was right about the same time as another one I forgot about until now.
The Breeders Title TK....

And for the same reason as Elastica. . all the great Tunes of their previous album Last Splash we're completely missing. And unfortunately, things have only gotten worse in rock music since then
