What's the most ridiculous, stupidest rumor you ever heard about a rock star? These are my favorites:

Paul is Dead.
Alice Cooper is really Eddie Haskell from Leave it to Beaver.
Lady Gaga is really a man.
Grace Jones is really a man.
Courtney Love murdered Kurt Cobain
Jim Morrison is really still alive and living in the Himalayas
A bunch of people keep seeing Elvis at Burger King

The Beatles recorded an album in 1976 under the pseudonym "Klaatu". Paul was alive in this rumor.

Courtney killing Kurt really isn't that ridiculous. There's evidence she had him killed anyway.

Absolutely there was a documentary made about this very topic. A guy who said he had evidence and was about to ne interviewed was found dead the next day from an "apparent" suicide. (btw if you were motivated to give evidence on something that important why would you then go kill yourself beforehand?)

Kurt Cobain was a bipolar, depressed, and sick young man, who hated his celebrity status so much that he killed himself. It's really not that complicated. Courtney Love is an idiot, but she had nothing to with his death except for probably reintroducing drug abuse into Kurt's life.

The one that always makes me ill is this one which has been attributed to many people although its most commonly associated with Rod Stewart.

And of course the famous "mudshark" incident.

YES. That is an awesome one. There was even another similar one too, in which some people said it was really The Beatles. Was it Crack the Sky? I can'tnt quite remember. I'm going to have to look that one up.

Another urban myth in this vein is the gross-out contest between Alice Cooper (sometimes it's Captain Beefheart) and Frank Zappa in which Cooper defecates on the stage and Zappa tops him by ingesting it. When I heard this as a teenager the contest started with one of them dancing on baby chickens.

Speaking of Zappa, he of course immortalized a version of this incident in the Mothers song "Mud Shark." He apparently got the band more or less right, but the fish wrong.

I remember hearing various other rumors about Alice Cooper too. Like biting the heads off of chickens. I guess it was part of his act at one time, and people thought it was real I guess. There's also various rumors about Marilyn Manson doing all sorts of gross satanic shit.
