This is for the people who think that rock, as a commercial thing, is dead and gone.
Singles? maybe.
But I always thought Rock was more of an album based thing. So, I decided to make a list of the albums that reached no.1 in 1970,1980,1990,2000 and 2010 to see if there was any considerable downturn.
This is from the british charts, couldn't find the american charts as no one had them archived.

1970
Abbey Road - The Beatles
Led Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon And Garfunkel No. 1 for most the year
Let It Be - The Beatles
Self Portrait - Bob Dylan
A Question Of Balance - Moody Blues
Cosmo’s Factory - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out - Rolling Stones
Paranoid - Black Sabbath
Atom Heart Mother - Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin
New Morning - Bob Dylan

Number: 12

1980
Pretenders - The Pretenders
Duke - Genesis
Mccartney II - Paul Mccartney
Peter Gabriel III - Peter Gabriel
Emotional Rescue - Rolling Stones
The Game - Queen
Back In Black - AC/DC
Flesh And Blood - Roxy Music
Never For Ever - Kate Bush
Scary Monsters And Super Creeps - David Bowie
Zenyatta Mondatta - The Police

Number: 11

1990
I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got - Sinead O Connor
Behind The Mask - Fleetwood Mac
Sleeping With The Past - Elton John
Graffiti Bridge - Prince
Some Friendly - The Charlatans
The Rhythm Of The Saints - Paul Simon

Number: 6

2000
The Man Who - Travis
Standing On The Shoulder’s Of Giants - Oasis
Supernatural - Santana
Reload - Tom Jones (Wiki says it's rock so...)
Crush - Bon Jovi
Alone With Everybody - Richard Ashcroft
Parachutes - Coldplay
In Blue - The Corrs
Kid A - Radiohead
All That You Can’t Leave Behind - U2

Number: 10

2010
Lungs - Florence And The Machine
Night Train - Keane
To The Sea - Jack Johnson
The Suburbs - Arcade Fire
The Final Fronteir - Iron Maiden
Flamingo - Brandon Flowers
Science And Faith - The Script
Come Around Sundown - Kings Of Leon

Number: 8

I excluded greatest hits. So basically this is to show that no, it isn't dead. They probably hought the same thing in 1990.

What are these albums? If they were the number ones I'm sure there would be much more here.

These are the number ones in that year that could be considered rock. Like hell I'd do a whole decade, that would be insane.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that.
Over here, for nearly half the month in 1967, The Sound Of Music Soundtrack was at the top. The only reson it ever left was ebcause of some obscure album called Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
