So what do you non-americans eat? Just curious? Do you guys have fast food or restaurant chains? Do you all cook at home and never go out to an establishment? The local market? Or do you simply slaughter a cow and have a shindig for the whole town? (i'm sounding pretty obnoxious, eh i'm american)

Yes there are fast food chains in Slovenia. There's McDonalds, there's even been an opening of the first Burger King, there are Chinese, Mexican, Thai (,...) restaurants. It's called globalisation . I don't think it's normal if say a family eats there though. I mean if we have a family meal it's usually at home (going out to a restaurant is usually reserved to "special" occasions, although I can't say this for everybody), and it ranges from pre-prepared (ok is that even a word) stuff that even an idiot like me can cook to more .. um fancy meals involving steaks or whateva.
As a student I often eat in those restaurants that I listed above (fast food or regular ones that offer discounts for students). I've been taking it a bit easy with McDonalds though, I think it has been about half a year since I last ate there (shakes don't count right)

we killed a hog in the morning, skinned and butchered it. Cooked the skin and ate it, cooked all the meat on it, and then made a soup from its heart.... Thats all we ate for a couple of days! ... i thought i was gunna have a heart attack, all that grease. Was pretty tasty though but not appealing at all.
