Favorite Artist by State

This thread is in response to Buzzdainer's suggestion from the international thread.

For groups, I used the place of origin for the formation of the group; for solo artists, I used the state of their birth. I had to dig deep into obscurity for a few. Also some aren't really favorites of mine, but they come from states with little from which to choose.

Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Alaska - Portugal. The Man
Arizona - Flotsam and Jetsam
Arkansas - Evanescence
California - Jefferson Airplane
Colorado - Big Head Todd and the Monsters (My home state had surprisingly little to choose from)
Connecticut - Fates Warning (A++ group from a little state)
Delaware - George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers
Florida - Blackfoot (great southern rock state--could also have gone for Allman Brothers, Outlaws or Molly Hatchet)
Georgia - Dixie Dregs
Hawaii - Sacred Rite
Idaho - Paul Revere and the Raiders
Illinois - Miles Davis
Indiana - Wes Montgomery (considered by some to be the greatest guitarist ever in any genre)
Iowa - Slipknot
Kansas - Kansas
Kentucky - Cage the Elephant
Louisiana - Buddy Guy
Maine - Lenny Breau
Maryland - Frank Zappa
Massachusetts - Dream Theater (lots of great artists to choose from here; DT is the best)
Michigan - Grand Funk Railroad
Minnesota - Soul Asylum (yes, I know Prince and Dylan are both from MN)
Mississippi - Muddy Waters
Missouri - Connie Dover (obscure, but magnificent. Celtic/Folk voice of an absolute angel)
Montana - George Winston (the worlds foremost new age pianist)
Nebraska - Manheim Steamroller
Nevada - Panic! At the Disco (surprisingly little to choose from from a state known for entertainment)
New Hampshire - Aerosmith
New Jersey - Sarah Vaughan (yes, I know mumbles Springsteen is from NJ)
New Mexico - John Denver (yes, Colorado's favorite son was born in NM)
New York - Mahavishnu Orchestra
North Carolina - John Coltrane
North Dakota - Jonny Lang
Ohio - Isley Brothers (I expected more to choose from here)
Oklahoma - The Gap Band
Oregon - Decemberists
Pennsylvania - McCoy Tyner (My favorite jazz pianist)
Rhode Island - Throwing Muses
South Carolina - Marshall Tucker Band
South Dakota - Indigenous (Excellent blues rock band composed of all Native American members)
Tennessee - Isaac Hayes
Texas - Albert Collins (Lots to choose from in the Lone Star State, but the Master of the Telecaster was an easy choice for me)
Utah - Jewel (it was either that or the Osmonds!)
Vermont - Phish (overrated IMO, but not much else from Vermont)
Virginia - Robbin Thompson Band (Obscure but outstanding Americana/rock band)
Washington - Heart (Soundgarden was under consideration, but NOT Nirvana)
West Virginia - Bill Withers
Wisconsin - Les Paul
Wyoming - Teenage Bottlerocked

D.C. - Duke Ellington
