I know some Russian artists, the great composers, and electronic musicians, but very little in the way of contemporary artists. Ive been listening to this lately;

Ariadna by Kedr Livanskiy

and I can't help but think I've been missing out on something.

Russian surf rock bands are the best; Russian surf rock is the best rock music in the world right now, considering how dead it is in America and most other places. They're the only rock bands I listen to now

Coffin Wheels
The Vivisectors
This Spy Surfs
Messer Chups
Red Elvises
Gulag Tunes ( more of a collective)

Here's a good one. Leatherface Sentimental by Coffin Wheels

And here's a surf version of Kraftwerk's The Model. Yes, you heard me right.

that Russian surf version of The Model is the coolest thing I've heard in a long time.
Wouldn't be out of place in a Tarantino movie. Good rec!

I just remembered probably the most famous Russian act that I could recall.. t.A.T.u. Two pretty girls who pretended they were lovers but they really weren't. They weren't even gay. They got a lot of publicity about 10 or 15 years ago. Can't remember the music though. They were just sexy and shit. I don't think anyone gave a fuck about their actual music. Anybody remember t.A.T.u.??
