What's your favourite soft rock / AOR / MOR song ?
Any thoughts to clarify the genre ? Or is it just too broad ?

Anyway, I love a good soft rock song!

I've just discovered "Hello It's me" by Todd Rundgren. Stunning interpretation.
And for an extra dose of sweetness: "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" ?
But these are famous. Any hidden treasures perhaps ?

Hello it's me is indeed great. It's not really an interpretation though because it's his song. I guess it's true that the genre you describe is just too broad. But everyone knows what you mean. I'm just going to stick to the definition of soft-rock being softer songs that are by artists who are basically rock artists. MOR is something kind of different. I really don't know how it's described, but I would describe it as music made by people who aren't really rock artists but just pop artists. Anyway, here are some of my favorites from the Golden Age of Soft Rock: The 70's.

I Saw the Light. Todd Rundgren
Never Gonna Fall in Love Again. Eric Carmen
Into the Night. Benny Mardones
Jackie Blue. Ozark Mountain Daredevils
Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head. BJ Thomas
Chevy Van. Sammy Johns
Midnight at the Oasis. Maria Muldaur
Air That I Breathe. The Hollies
Let Your Love Flow. Bellamy brothers
Don't Cry Out Loud. Melissa Manchester
At Seventeen. Janis Ian
Make it with You. Bread
Operator. Jim Croce
Please Come to Boston. Dave Loggins
Me and You and a Dog Named Boo. Lobo
Danny's Song. Anne Murray
Summer Breeze. Seals and Crofts
Fire and Rain. James Taylor
Peace Train and Wild World. Cat Stevens
Stones and Sweet Caroline. Neil Diamond
That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be. Carly Simon
Peaceful. Helen Reddy

Yes , this is a good definition

just tried: "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again". Eric Carmen in your list. Not bad at all!

For Todd Rundgren, I chose the wrong word. I thought the word interpretation or rendition could apply to one's own song

Also thanks to Daydreamer and Tha1chiefRocka

Thinking about soft songs, I remembered that one.
The first line goes : "Is it asking too much to be more than a friend.."
This and the 45 cover...

Really? One of the world’s Top bad songs. But I might be prejudiced because there is an even worse German version. I am glad you mentioned At 17 though. A song (and artist) I love.

The ultimate soft rock song in my opinion is: Chicago - If you leave me now. A song that encapsulates all that is bad in soft rock. Topped maybe by Stevie Wonder’s crimes. I just called..., or Ebony and Ivory...

But this is off topic. So good ones. There are many. But somehow what comes to mind first is

Slade Everyday.

I remember the day that came out. Certainly a change of style. But I loved it ever since.

Did Slade do a soft rock song? Man I got to hear that. I can't imagine. I agree about the 2 Stevie Wonder's you named. Definitely his low points. But I think Chicago didn't get bad till the 80s really. All of their 70s hits were still pretty tuneful. And Let Your Love flow is a fantastically played song. It bounces along from start to finish. Super catchy with a great bass line, its a great record.

A lot in your list are a bit too folk for my taste. But some I liked :
Jackie Blue. Ozark Mountain Daredevils: is definitely my favourite. Great find for me
Chevy Van. Sammy Johns: is good, very Eagles
Midnight at the Oasis. Maria Muldaur: has an interesting modern voice
Into the Night. Benny Mardones: funny video

Otherwise, sticking to rockers doing mid-tempo ballads, I’m thinking of :

Big Star : September Gurls
Grateful Dead : Box of Rain

+ The Cars: Drive : but it's more a slow song, in the like of 10cc “I’m not in love”, than "classic" soft rock.
