What is the worst lyric in an otherwise great song.
Even though I find this lyric funny I'll drop my example below:
"They're spaghetti - They possess me" Atoms For Peace - Amok

The things that come to mind first are great songs that unfortunately have the worst kind of bullshit religious or hippie type lyrics. Or stupid political lyrics.
But the music is so great on these records that you don't even mind singing the crappy lyrics. Like these great songs
My Sweet Lord, Give Me Love, and What is Life by George Harrison
Peace Train by Cat Stevens
Because by the Beatles
All You Need Is Love by the Beatles
Love Child by Diana Ross and The Supremes
Love Train by The O'Jays

Elenore by The Turtles
"Elenore gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well
You're my pride and joy et cetera
Elenore can I take the time
To ask you to speak your mind
Tell me that you love me better"
This is so bad it is nearly good again. I mean "et cetera" does not even rhyme with anything. (That was John Peel´s example of stupid lyrics.) _________________ When the stewardess is near do not show any fear.

Great choice there! Awesome groove; painfully cheezy and at times awkward lyrics
"Please don't miss this train at the station
'Cause if you miss it, I feel sorry, sorry for you"

Spring was never waiting for us dear
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo
I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground beneath your knees
The birds like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing chinese checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo
[Instrumental Interlude]
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet green icing flowing down
Someone left my cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to make it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, nooooo

Can you believe I actually thought of this one? The lyrics are absurdly bad. Then I thought, it has to be a GREAT SONG with bad lyrics, and is this really a great song? I happen to love the Donna Summer record, but not the original. So I really couldn't decide if it was a great song with bad lyrics, or just a bad song with bad lyrics. I'm not sure. Ha ha

Come on, cause it is. Sometimes it is a blessing that I do not get all the lyrics. Although I did wonder what kind of recipe he was singing about. _________________ When the stewardess is near do not show any fear.

Which version do you think is great?
I think the recipe they're singing about is for a cake. Because the old cake got left out in the rain and it got all fucked up. So he had to make a new one. And I guess he lost the recipe.

I've come to love the song and this record in particular
Ten Easy Pieces by Jimmy Webb
It's a terrible lyric, but maybe any other lyric wouldn't be an improvement?
Sometimes nonsense is exactly what's required for an audience to divine their own meaning from a song.

I take it to mean this: a recipe is a plan, and the best plans of men fail. You only have one chance to get married for the first time and live happily ever after, for instance. After that, the recipe is gonna need to be different, and the cake is gonna be different. It's a song about thwarted idealism and grief, in my mind.
