About chart of the day: The BestEverAlbums.com chart of the day is randomly selected from all charts of at least 50 entries (and divisible by ten). Charts are only selected if they have a minimum average rating of 75 out of 100 from at least 10 votes, and must have been updated in the last 180 days. In addition, a chart must allow member feedback for it to be eligible to be selected. A full history of chart of the day can be viewed here.

Definitely a controversial chart.

Even though henry's chart and mine have only 3 albums in common (and 7 artists in common) I find myself agreeing with many of those choices that have been made. (and there's nothing in there that is wildly "out-there" ... all the albums are generally within the top 10,000).

I think for that reason the chart is useful if you are looking for new music in that sweet spot between wacky and popular. Thus the chart scores highly in my book.

The controversial elements are:
(1) Is deliberately choosing albums that are not 'classics' skewing the purpose of the site, which is to objectively and honestly strive to find the "best albums"?
Clearly, if one person uses this rationale for their chart then it's not a problem, but if too many try to balance out the overall chart then you undermine the consensus.

(2) Only having 1 album per artist is another device that skews the chart as well. I plead somewhat guilty in this respect because I have limited my overall chart to 2 albums per artist (I felt that the 1 album limit was too extreme). Those bands that produce many albums of consistently high quality would be penalised in the corporate chart if this became a general rule.

Just because an album is outside the top 10,000 doesn't mean it's a suspect choice for a chart.

No, it's not harming the site. There is no objective best album. Consensus is mostly unimportant and we shouldn't care about undermining it. Each person should just choose the albums they like best for their chart. Then we'd have a far better chart than the current situation, where people make their own charts in relation to the overall chart.

As for the one album per artist rule, I find myself flip-flopping a lot.
